Jefferson County Relay for Life features a new time schedule, opening at 7 p.m., Friday, July 14, this year, and continuing on Saturday, July 15, at the Madras High School football field.
Cancer survivors are encouraged to come register and walk the first lap of the relay. The luminaria ceremony will be at 10 p.m., Friday evening, starting with a moment of silence, followed by an inspirational ceremony, a lap of remembrance featuring a bagpiper, and concluding with a slide show of cancer survivors and those who have lost the battle.
Due to the schedule change, organizers are encouraging everyone to prepurchase luminaries at Jefferson County Title or Columbia River Bank. They may also be purchased after noon on Friday, at the MHS football field.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour event where families, friends and coworkers come together to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Money raised by the event goes directly toward research, education, advocacy and services.
Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a silent auction, with many wonderful items to bid on.
Participants will enjoy entertainment, games, dedications, tributes and more during the event. Friday night there will be a potato bar with all the toppings, and on Saturday there will be a pancake breakfast and hamburger and hot dogs available.
Those who haven't experienced a Relay are encouraged to come out, walk a lap, and join in the fun. The event's theme is: "There is no finish line until we find a cure!"
