> The five candidates for two Jefferson County commissioner spots will be showcased at a candidates forum Thursday at the Senior Center in Madras.
The Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event. Incumbent Walt Ponsford, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican John Hatfield for position 1. Democrat Mike Ahern, Republican Donna Tollefson and Independent Bill Atherton are vying for position No. 2.
The forum will begin at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to finish at 8 p.m.
The majority of the forum will consist of the candidates answering questions posed from the crowd. Attendees will be asked to submit questions, which will be pulled randomly. Organizers ask that questions be general enough to be addressed to all five candidates.
The candidates will get two minutes at the beginning and two minutes at the end to speak on any points they wish.
Refreshments will be served. The Senior Center is located at 860 S.W. Madison.
