Pioneer ads win first place in contest


   The Madras Pioneer ad department has received three first-place awards in the 2006 Oregon Newspaper Publishers Best Ad Ideas Contest.
   In the ad contest, The Pioneer competed against other Oregon weeklies and bi-weeklies with circulations of 5,000 and less. Entries were judged by the members of the Mississippi Newspaper Publishers Association.
   The Pioneer won first place in the categories of: Best Multi-Color Merchandising Ad, for its "Turf by McPheeters" ad; Best Use of One Color and Black, for its "Oscar's Building" ad; and Best Section Cover, for its "Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo" special section cover.
   The ad department includes Manager Joy DeHaan, Composition Manager Becky Johnson, Composition Employee Allene Silva, and Publisher Tony Ahern.
