A family-run operation
La Caba¤ita Mexican Restaurant has moved to a larger location, next door to its original restaurant.
Owners Carmelo and Eulalia Burgos, who started La Caba¤ita six years ago, held a grand opening Oct. 7, for the new building at 249 S.E. Fifth St., in Madras. They have kept the former building to use as the bakery. Carmelo is the baker, turning out fresh Mexican pastries and breads, while Eulalia cooks at the restaurant, assisted by family members Carmen, Nidya, Yadira and Berta Burgos.
The new location will also have a new menu featuring Mexico City-style cooking, and a choice of American or Mexican breakfast items.
A sampling of the menu includes: breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, quesadillas, chuletas (pork chops), taquitos, chimichanga, enchiladas, taco salad, fajitas, and seafood dishes with shrimp or fried fish. They also offer milkshakes, homemade Mexican fruit waters (strawberry, pineapple, etc.), and Carmelo's fresh rolls and pastries.
La Caba¤ita is open from 5 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Customers can dine inside, or call 475-3435 for take-out orders. -- By Susan Matheny
