To the Editor,
As a landowner in the city, we are opposed to the plans for a new City Hall building on the corner of Fourth Street. We take walks with our dog to Friendship Park and enjoy walking over to the memorial. What will happen to the memorial that honors Jefferson County residents killed in action?
Why do we need a new city hall? A two-story building will block our view of the city and the north end of town. It will also add more traffic to this area and cause a safety issue for the elementary students at Westside Elementary. And, what about having registered sex offenders and drug dealers within close proximity to elementary students.
Please consider building a new city hall elsewhere. Growth is mostly east of Madras and would more easily accommodate this large building.
