Oregon State Police troopers arrested a Madras man Dec. 2 following a Jefferson County Grand Jury indictment related to a July 2006 fatal traffic crash on U.S. Highway 26 northwest of Madras.
OSP Trooper John Russo and Recruit Scott Sogge arrested Rodrigo Reynoso Pineda, 24, of Madras, at his residence at 3:17 p.m.
The arrest followed an OSP investigation into a fatal traffic crash that occurred on July 27, around 3:31 p.m., when Pineda was operating a 1999 Honda Prelude on U.S. Highway 26 approximately 13 miles northwest of Madras. Pineda lost control of his car and collided head on with a 1997 silver Dodge Caravan.
Pineda's passenger, Gerardo Robles-Arrelo, 20, died at the scene.
OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command Office, with the assistance of crash reconstructionist Senior Trooper Joseph Craig, investigated the crash.
On Nov. 30, Peter Deuel, Jefferson County district attorney, presented the case to the Jefferson County Grand Jury and obtained an indictment.
Pineda was taken into custody and lodged at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility for second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and two counts of fourth-degree assault.
