> One man was killed in a March 4 accident 25 miles east of Government Camp, on U.S. Highway 26, involving two semi-trucks and a pickup.
According to Oregon State Police, around 2:30 p.m., Vern Thompson Jr., 66, of LaPine, was headed east in a pickup through the Warm Springs Reservation, when he attempted to pass a commercial semi-truck, driven by Joseph Lee Cutberth, in a no-passing zone.
As he was passing, another oncoming semi-truck, driven by Ronnie E. Jones, 59, of Terrebonne, came around the curve and hit Thompson's pickup nearly head-on. Then the pickup was also struck by Cutberth's semi-truck, and rolled off the highway, coming to rest upside down.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by Warm Springs police. Neither Jones nor Cutberth was injured.
