A busy opening week for Madras baseball gave coaches and fans plenty to see.
The White Buffalos went 1-2 with a 10-4 win at LaPine on Wednesday. Madras lost 10-8 at Hood River on Tuesday, March 13 to open the season and fell 6-3 to Bend in a nonleague Saturday game.
"We still have a lot of work to do, that's what I learned from the first week," Buff coach Kevin Cave said. "There's little things we have to perfect before we're ready for league play."
In the win, Darrell Ceciliani pounded out three doubles and drove in four runs. Madras took an early lead on Turner Gill's two-run double in the second.
Jake Prow added a triple as well as earning the victory.
Bend jumped ahead 6-0 in Saturday's contest, including three runs in the fifth. The Buffs opened their scoring with an RBI single by Prow in the bottom of the fifth.
Two more runs followed in the seventh thanks to a throwing error by Bend and sacrifice fly by Prow.
Madras returns to action at 3 p.m. Monday by hosting Marshfield. The Buffs also hosted Crook County in a Tuesday nonleaguer (played after press time).
