Jefferson County Community Read will be hosting two informal gatherings for "Oscar Stories and Deschutes River Reminiscences."
Several old friends of Oscar's will be there, and local residents are invited to share their Oscar Lange and Deschutes River stories not chronicled in the book "The Sky Fisherman," by Craig Lesley.
One of the main characters in Lesley's book, which was chosen for this year's Community Read, is based on Lesley's real-life uncle Oscar Lange, a colorful river guide and Madras sporting goods store owner.
The first event will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at the Jefferson County Senior Center, 860 S.W. Madison St., Madras. Bring a brown bag lunch, or call the center at 475-6494 to make lunch reservations by March 29.
The second gathering will be the same day, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Jefferson County Library Annex, 134 S.E. E St., Madras, with cookies provided.
"Come share your stories and be prepared to laugh," said Community Read committee member Ruth Ann Hopps.
(Two crossword puzzles which use information from "The Sky Fisherman" are now available to download online at the library's Web site www.jcld.org, or pages can be picked up at the library).
