Big win for Culver baseball

A win followed a rainout for the Culver baseball team in 2A/1A Special District 3 action.
The Bulldogs beat Delphian 10-0 in six innings Friday. The victory came after a Wednesday, April 13, home game against Scio was wiped out by rain. That game was scheduled to be made up Tuesday, April 17. Rain already claimed Monday's game at Alsea.
Thus, Culver has a schedule of six games in seven days, fortified by a pair of doubleheaders. The pitching-sapping stint started with a Tuesday, April 17, makeup of the Scio contest (played after press time).
A 4:30 p.m. Thursday home game against Alsea follows. That is a makeup of a Monday contest postponed due to rainy weather.
The original schedule has the Bulldogs playing a Saturday doubleheader at Salem Academy. Then baseball has a 2 p.m. Monday doubleheader at Siletz Valley.
Culver 10, Delphian 0: A combination of nine hits, no errors and strong pitching by Jeremiah Calvin led to the win.
Calvin allowed just three hits while striking out nine. He was helped by solid defense.
Meanwhile, Terry Nelson led the hitting with three hits and scored three runs. Andrew Hanson added two hits to drive in a pair of runs while Mike Williams added a double.
Two days earlier, the contest against Scio didn't make it into the third inning before the storm came. The Loggers led 4-2 but the hail and rain made the field unplayable.
