> Victor M. Becerra Jr., 25, and Daniel Arce, 18, residents of Warm Springs, appeared in federal court on April 11, following their arrest on an indictment charging them with the federal crimes of assault and robbery.
The two are charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury and robbery. The maximum penalty is 10 years for the assault offenses, and 15 years for robbery.
Both individuals were detained in federal custody pending trial scheduled for June 12.
The indictment alleges that acting together, the defendants intentionally assaulted another individual with a firearm, which resulted in serious bodily injury, and that by force and intimidation they unlawfully took a motor vehicle from the same individual.
The case was jointly investigated by the Warm Springs Police Department and the Bend Resident Agency of the FBI. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The prosecution of the case is being handled by assistant U.S. attorney Billy J. Williams.
