Troutdale, Gresham residents involved
Two East County residents were among six people injured in a two-vehicle traffic crash Friday morning, Oct. 14, on Highway 18 east of Otis in Lincoln County, which left one with critical injuries.
Kenon A. Everts, 19, of Troutdale and passenger Thomas W. Gates, 16, of Gresham were traveling westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 3 in a 1998 Volkswagen Cabrio around 9:07 a.m., according to Oregon State Police.
For an unknown reason, the Volkswagen crashed into a guardrail and then crossed into the eastbound lane, where it collided with an eastbound 1999 Chrysler Concord with four occupants.
Everts had critical injuries and was flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland by an REACH ambulance helicopter. Gates and the other four people were taken to North Lincoln Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Chrysler's occupants were Milwaukie residents Neal T. Miller, 46, passenger Kandice M. Blomdahl, 31, an 8-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.
Everts and Gates were wearing seatbelts.
Highway 18 was closed in both directions for more than four hours with a detour in place. State police with the Newport-area office are still investigating the crash.
