John and Judy (Love) Brown, of Madras, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary April 22.
The Browns were married in Braidwood, Ill., Judy's hometown, on April 22, 1967. Just prior to the wedding, a tornado struck, tearing off the roof of the church's porch, and damaging about half the buildings in town.
Several days later, a second reception was held in Yankee Hill, Calif., where John's family live. The newlyweds then headed for Alaska, where they soon settled in Seward.
In 1971, the Browns moved to Parkdale, Ore., where they farmed for 10 years before coming to Madras, where they have farmed and raised cattle for 25 years.
The Browns have two sons, Adam Brown and wife Dani, and Scott Brown, as well as three grandchildren, Shawn and McKenzie Brown, and Bailey Brown.
Before the Browns were married, John served in the U.S. Army from June of 1965 until March of 1967, spending 13 months in Thailand.
They both enjoy spending time with family hunting, fishing and growing things, especially a garden. Judy is an expert on growing corn and beans in her garden.
