boxers dominate rival linfield
The Pacific men's soccer team played two games at Lincoln Park Stadium last week after nearly a month away on a five-game road trip, defeating Linfield 2-0 on Friday before a dramatic 1-1 draw with Willamette on Sunday.
The Boxers dominated play against Linfield, owning a 23-9 shot advantage, and two of those found the back of the net. Patrick Murray and Nick Rudella each had a goal and an assist in the win, which ended a six-game home losing streak. Michael Summers earned his second consecutive shutout in goal with three saves.
Summers was a lot busier on Sunday, as Willamette outshot the Boxers 26-14. The sophomore goalkeeper nearly was up to the task, holding the Bearcats off the scoreboard until the final minute. With Pacific clinging to a 1-0 lead after Mason Nakama's unassisted goal in the 68th minute, the Bearcats tied the game in their final, frenetic assault on goal, with Brendan Dineen connecting on the equalizer with just 37 seconds left in regulation.
The Boxers hit the road again this week for their eastern Washington trip, facing Whitman on Saturday and Whitworth on Sunday.
ex-fghs golfer shines at pacific
Pacific golfers Jayme Hall and Emily Thorud placed 16th and 17th respectively at the Culturame Classic, held last week at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha.
Hall closed with a 12-over 85 to finish at 166 for the tournament, nipping her teammate Thorud, a 2009 Forest Grove High School graduate, by two strokes after the two were tied at 81 following the first 18 holes. Thorud shot an 87 on Saturday to finish at 168.
With their final warm-up tournament complete, the Boxers will prepare for the NWC Fall Classic at Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland beginning Saturday.
