Forest Grove's chances of qualifying both its boys and girls teams for the state cross country championships have never looked better after last week's Pacific Conference dual meet sweep of Hillsboro and McMinnville.

Senior Tyler Shipley dominated the boys 5K race last Wednesday, running 16:22.04 on the course at Joe Dancer Park to win by nine seconds over runner-up Nic McDaniel of McMinnville and nearly half a minute over third-place finisher Tim Anderson.

On the girls side, junior Elena Torry-Schrag and senior Olivia Masek-McIntosh went to the tape 1-2, crushing the rest of the field by more than 40 seconds. Torry-Schrag finished first in 20:05.05 and Masek-McIntosh took second place in 20:08.47.

The Forest Grove girls landed four other runners in the Top 10 to easily beat both McMinnville and Hilhi in the team scoring. Rubi Vergara-Grindell finished fifth (21:13.06), Emilia Anderson was sixth (21:26.37), Julia Khoury took ninth (22:17.58) and Suly Rosales-Moreno placed 10th (22:34.90).

On the boys side, four more Top 10 individual performances highlighted a pair of Forest Grove team victories. James McCahon finished in fifth place (17:16.77), C.J. Johnson took sixth (17:29.59), Seth Berdahl was seventh (17:34.99) and Judd Parson claimed 10th (17:44.13).

The Viks will host Tualatin and Century this afternoon.
