A Washington County Grand Jury indicted 19-year-old Cody Ward with Manslaughter in the Second Degree Monday.

A Washington County Grand Jury indicted 19-year-old Cody Ward with Manslaughter in the Second Degree Monday.

Ward is charged with the Sept. 17 killing of his friend, 15-year-old Trenton Joseph 'TJ' Lester.

Ward was taken into custody at his father's house, where Lester was fatally shot. Ward called 9-1-1 after the incident.

The two youngsters were playing with a double-barreled sawed-off shotgun owned by Ward's father.

Ward allegedly told investigators that he loaded the shotgun, then pointed it at Lester's head.

The gun went off, killing Lester. Ward and his girlfriend, who witnessed the shooting, maintain the shooting was accidental.
