Valdezes celebrate 50th anniversary
Rodolfo and Carolina Valdez of Madras celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a March 2 reception at the Rodriguez Annex, hosted by their family and the Jehovah's Witness Spanish congregation.
The couple's son, Jesse, surprised them by flying in from Iowa four days before the reception.
The Valdezes, who were both born in Mexico, were married March 3, 1958 in Edinburg, Texas. They lived mostly in Texas, traveling from 1959-61 to do seasonal migrant work in Texas, California and Culver. In 1961, they moved to Culver, where Mr. Valdez did farm work for Dwight Macy until 1974, when they returned to Texas. In 1997, they moved back to Madras to be near their daughters.
They have five children, Irma Symons and Anna Reyes of Madras, Rose Torres of Culver, Sylvia Ybarra of Edinburg, Texas, and Jesse Valdez of Ottumwa, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
