Looking for custom-built cabinets? The Cabinet Shop, which opened in January, offers many styles and materials to choose from.
Owners Larry Neal and Lance Handsaker offer free estimates, and said customers can check out their work at the new CHS Garden Center, which hired The Cabinet Shop to build its cabinets.
Neal is a native Central Oregonian, born in Redmond and raised in Bend.
"I have been interested in woodworking as long as I can remember. Besides the cabinet shop, I have owned and operated Custom Sawin' Logs Furniture in Madras for eight years," Neal said.
Handsaker has lived in Madras since 1991 and has done woodworking all his life. For the past five year, he said, "I've been building custom furniture and children's furniture."
The men said they decided to open a shop because, "There was a need in town because there was only one cabinet shop." They said at The Cabinet Shop, they build heavier, high standard cabinets which are more durable.
At the shop, customers can view samples of woods, cabinet doors, and counter tops. Neal and Handsaker build the cabinets, then have subcontractors available to do the installation work.
"Our main objective is to build a quality cabinet at a reasonable price. And service is our No. 1 priority," Handsaker said.
The Cabinet Shop is located in the business complex at 1940 N.W. Mill Street, No. 3, (next to the Madras Sanitary recycling center). The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the business phone is 777-9735 or 777-9736.
