The eighth annual Community Cleanup is in the books with another successful year.
Over the two weekend period, residents of Jefferson County dropped off 430 loads, totaling approximately 600 cubic yards of flammable vegetation and clean yard waste at the Box Canyon Transfer Station.
The material collected will be chipped up and reutilized as yard mulch and/or ground cover.
The success of this year's program was due to the financial support form State Farm Insurance, Western States Insurance, cascade Insurance and Financial, City of Culver and the Rotary of Jefferson County.
If you need information on how to create fire safe areas around your home contact the fire district at 475-7274.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 is pleased to announce the winner of this year's yard makeover contest. The winners are John and Nicole Pope, who spent several hours removing old trees, bushes and creating green space around their home.
For their efforts, the Popes will receive a check for $100 from the student firefighters. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in the 2008 contest.
