er 56 years of honoring area pioneers, the Jefferson County Pioneer Association has decided to disband, following a final picnic on July 13.
"It was unanimously decided at the annual meeting March 11, that this would be the last picnic for the Pioneer Association," said secretary Teri Summers, noting the aging membership has made it hard to keep the association going.
"It was also decided that instead of choosing a pioneer man and queen for 2008, we would instead honor all the former queens and men and would like to have as many in attendance as can come.
The picnic will be held in the Maccie Conroy building at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds at noon, July 13.
