To the Editor,
I have been an election volunteer for many years and know it is my responsibility to learn as much as possible about the issues and the candidates for each election. Having heard and followed the candidates for the upcoming Democratic nomination for secretary of state, I support Sen. Vicki Walker of Eugene.
Sen. Walker has deep community and legislative experience making her well qualified and ready to serve in this important position. As senator, she is an aggressive advocate for education, financial accountability and responsive government. I would expect similar style as Oregon's secretary of state.
As I study the qualities and capabilities of the three candidates, it is obvious that Ms. Walker's experience as senator, plus her rich and varied life experience come together in this strong and capable candidate. I am impressed that Ms. Walker has achieved her goals through focused, dedicated work; obtaining her education, being a parent, being a citizen activist and in 1998 being elected and serving citizens of our state.
Perhaps it is best to read more about Vicki's life journey on her very comprehensive web page. www.vickiwalker.com While studying the web page, read Vicki Walker's position description as secretary of state "Counting for Oregon." Introducing her vision she says, "For nearly a decade, Oregonians have been able to count on me to defend their right to be heard in Salem. As a state senator, I have consistently stood up to powerful interests, shining a bright light on waste, fraud and abuse in state government. I'm running for secretary of state because your government needs to bring the same accountability and transparency towards counting your votes and your tax dollars correctly."
I encourage you to learn more about the strength and ability of Vicki Walker and help nominate her for the office of secretary of state in the May primary election.
