Culver baseball drops two

Two close losses were not what the Culver baseball team was looking for in 2A/1A Special District 2 play last week.
The losses to Kennedy and then Santiam dropped the Bulldogs (3-5 league, 9-7 overall) out of the top four.
Thus, Culver is three games out of fourth place, and the final playoff spot, with six games to play starting this week. That schedule includes a Thursday game at league leader Salem Academy and then a Tuesday, April 29 contest at fourth-place Scio.
The Bulldogs also hosted second-place Blanchet on Tuesday, April 22 (played after press time).
Kennedy 3, Culver 1: The Trojans came into the game averaging nearly nine runs a game but managed just two against Bulldog starter Jeremiah Calvin in six innings.
That was enough, with another run in the seventh added on, to win at Culver on Tuesday, April 15.
The lone Bulldog run came in the fourth.
Santiam 5, Culver 1: All five of the host's runs came in the first three innings as the Wolverines earned their second league victory this season.
