Jefferson County Soroptimists have awarded the Violet Richardson Award to Cassie Drew.
Drew was selected for the award for her volunteer role in STARS (Student's Aren't Read for Sex) and Relay For Life.
She has been involved with Relay For Life for the last several years as captain of a youth team. She raised funds for the American Cancer Society, helped with the silent auction at the relay, and is currently the Youth Involvement Chair.
As youth chair, she hopes to encourage more young people to get involved with Relay For Life and make a difference in the fight against cancer.
"Drew has made a huge impact with her involvement and commitment to Relay For Life," said Jennifer Hatfield, Soroptimist member.
This year's Relay For Life is July 11 and 12 at the Madras High School track.
Jolene Pumpelly received the Women's Opportunity Award. This award is for women who are financially responsible for supporting their families. Jolene is currently attending COCC and taking classes in sociology.
