Tiger runners sweep Century, Glencoe


HILLSBORO - It was a total clean sweep for the Tigers.

The Tigard High School boys and girls cross country teams both downed Century and Glencoe in a Pacific Conference double dual meet held Oct. 12 at Century High School.

To make things even better for the Tigers, they had the individual winner in both varsity races.

The Tigard girls scored a 20-35 win over Century and they downed Glencoe 16-incomplete at last week's meet. With the two wins, the Tigers improved to 3-2 in league dual meets.

Freshman Elizabeth Dean led the way for the Tigard girls. She finished first in the 5,000-meter race in a time of 20 minutes, 59 seconds.

Tigard senior Emily Walch was second at 21:03 and freshman teammate Hannaly Duff-McGaughey was third at 21:28. Also for the Tiger girls, freshman Kela Apau was fifth at 21:56, junior Marilyn Wallenburn was 10th at 22:49.

The Tigard boys beat Century 20-37 and they scored a 15-50 win over Glencoe to stay unbeaten in league meets, moving to 5-0.

Tiger senior Scott Rice won the varsity boys race in a time of 16:58. Tiger junior Matt Carlson was three seconds behind in second place at 17:01.

Also for the Tigard boys, junior John Walker was fourth at 17:13, freshman John Caufield was fifth at 17:17, senior Ian Rogers was eighth at 17:37, sophomore Nathanael Ditton was 10th at 17:51 and sophomore Devin Roche was 11th at 17:54.

The Tigard teams were scheduled to host McMinnville and Newberg in a double dual league meet on Wednesday. Results of that meet weren't available when the Times went to press.

The Tigers will be back in action next Thursday when they run at the Pacific Conference District Championships, which will be held at Clackamas Community College.
