Event will benefit the Oregon Food Bank
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are celebrating their 125th anniversary with an outreach project to feed the hungry.
Hosted by the Sisters and the city of Beaverton, the special 'Soup's On!' event on Saturday will benefit the Oregon Food Bank West from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Valiants' Athletic Center at Valley Catholic High School, 4440 S.W 148th Ave., in Beaverton.
'When the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon asked me about an issue that needed some special attention, the issue of addressing community hunger came to mind,' said Beaverton Mayor Dennis Doyle. 'This partnership will enable us to better help those who are struggling.'
In a special competition, 20 Beaverton-area restaurants will offer samples of their signature soups at the Valiants' Athletic Center at Valley Catholic High School. Guests will vote for their favorite soup and raise money for the Oregon Food Bank, which distributes 300,000 pounds of food each month in Washington County.
The event will help raise funds to fight hunger and feature a no-host bar, pastries, desserts and rolls donated from several local restaurants and bakeries. All proceeds will benefit the Oregon Food Bank West.
The Sisters are also collecting cans of soup at Valley Catholic through Friday.
Tickets to 'Soup's On!' can be purchased at the door. Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and children 4 and younger are free.
