A Corbett man was involved in a Friday morning, Oct. 21, traffic crash that seriously injured a 53-year-old Canby woman on Highway 551 north of Arndt Road.
According to state police, Harold H. Sherman Jr., 49, of Corbett was driving a 2007 Freightliner truck with a flatbed semi-trailer. He was backing the semi-trailer from a side road onto Highway 551 near milepost 1 around 5:30 a.m. when a northbound 2011 Toyota Camry crashed into the semi-trailer.
The Toyota's driver, Pao Yee Cha, was extricated from the car by Aurora Rural Fire Protection District personnel and transported by helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. She was using safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed.
Sherman was not injured.
The highway was closed for more than an hour and then opened to one lane until about 8 a.m. State police troopers from the Salem area command office are continuing the investigation. No citations have been issued.
