Menucha purchases View Point furniture

Several tables and chairs from the dining room at the historic, fire-damaged View Point Inn will find a new home at the nearby Menucha Retreat and Conference Center.

The Rev. Spencer Parks, Menucha's executive director, said the tables and chairs will be used for events at Menucha and at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Portland. He said about 8 to 10 Menucha staff members and community volunteers helped pick up the furniture after the purchase Thursday, Oct. 20.

'It's nice that it's going from one historic piece of property to another,' Parks said, noting that nothing of historic value or from 'Twilight' - the popular 2008 movie that filmed a scene at the inn - was purchased.

The inn's court-appointed trustee, Ken Eiler, put up the inn's furniture for auction as part of former View Point Inn owner Geoff Thompson's Chapter 7 bankruptcy case.
