We thought this was a good idea when we first heard about it. Now we are thoroughly convinced. The Wood Village BottleDrop Redemption Center has become a valuable asset to our community by giving consumers new options for getting rid of their bottles and cans, but it's also taken the pressure off local businesses that were forced to act as recycling centers.
For consumers, gone are the days of waiting in line at grocery stores to turn in their bottles and cans at machines that were all too often broken down or full to capacity. Now, consumers are assured that someone is on hand to make sure those machines are working. And the option of turning in recyclables and allowing redemption center employees to handle the counting is smart.
We know this redemption center is a bit out of the way for everybody in East County, but as this model proves itself, it's likely we'll see more of these in other communities.
