Man dies in gang-related shooting

Police identify Friday night victim

Police say a man shot near Jefferson High School late Friday has died.

According to police, Deandre Clark, 25, was shot about 10:10 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the area of Northeast Haight Avenue and Emerson Street.

North Precinct officer responding to a shots fired report found a group gathered in the street and Clark suffering from one or more gunshot wounds. The officers immediately called for Portland Fire and Rescue and an American Medical Response ambulance to respond to the scene. They arrived quickly and transported him to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers established a large perimeter and called for a police canine to respond to the scene, but no suspects were found. The Forensic Evidence Division responded and processed the crime scene, and the Gang Enforcement Team also responded and began the investigation.

Information available at the scene confirmed this was a gang shooting.

Police say the shooting was not related to any problem at the nearby football game. The game was well attended and was without incident.
