8 injured in MAX crash

A semi truck and an eastbound MAX train collide Monday

Eight people were injured Monday afternoon in a collision between a truck and a MAX train in Hillsboro.

Six of the train's passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Another passenger refused treatment for minor injuries. The truck's driver was also injured in the crash.

The train's driver also received a minor scratch in the accident.

The collision happened shortly after noon when the light-rail train was traveling east near Southeast 10th and Washington streets. The accident closed the intersection and shut down local Blue Line MAX service for about an hour.

Hillsboro Police and TriMet investigators are interviewing drivers of the train and the truck, as well as checking the traffic signal at 10th and Washington to determine why the collision occurred.
