Home was custom built
Fire destroyed a custom-built home in Damascus on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
A Comcast employee who also happens to be a volunteer firefighter in Sandy noticed smoke coming from the house in the 17900 block of Southeast Vogel Road at about 2 p.m., said Steve McAdoo, Clackamas Fire District 1 spokesman.
Smoke billowed so high that it could be seen from Oregon City, said Tammy Owen, Boring Fire District spokeswoman.
District firefighters, as well as those from Boring, extinguished the fire. But by then, 'it burned the entire house down,' McAdoo said.
The couple that owns the house was not home at the time. Their two dogs in the front yard were not injured, Owen said.
McAdoo said the homeowner and his wife had the house custom built.
'He picked out the lumber,' McAdoo said. 'He was very sad.'
Cause of the fire is under investigation. But the damage is so extensive, it's likely the cause will remain undetermined, McAdoo said.
