Unions rally, march with Occupy Portland protesters
- Portland Tribune - News
Hundreds of local union members will join Occupy Portland protesters in a downtown march Wednesday afternoon.
Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union will stage a rally at 5 p.m. in Director Park on Park Avenue between Yamhill and Taylor streets. At 6 p.m., AFSCME and members of AFL-CIO and Jobs With Justice will march to the Occupy Portland camps in what the unions call 'a show of solidarity.'
Occupy Portland protesters have set up camps in two downtown public squares a block from City Hall. Between 200 and 400 campers have been there since a rally and march Oct. 6 in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
City officials have not required the campers to leave the parks, even as other cities across the country have used police force to close similar protest camps.
