Portland police fired beanbag rounds and a Taser Monday afternoon at a suspect in a downtown stabbing that left one man in critical condition.

Police arrested 49-year-old Scott Alan Harbin and charged him with first-degree assault in the case. Harbin was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

According to police, Harbin was a suspect in a stabbing in the 800 block of Southwest 10th Avenue. A witness to the stabbing followed the suspect and led officers to him at Southwest Ninth Avenue and Oak Street.

The man, still armed with a knife, refused to follow police commands to drop the weapon, so officers fired beanbag rounds from a shotgun and used a Taser to subdue the suspect.

Police said stabbing victim, a 49-year-old man, did not know the suspect. The victim is in critical condition at a Portland-area hospital.
