Madras Heat seventh overall; Nostalgia Drags Sept. 17-18

Madras Heat seventh in Boise, Idaho
On Labor Day Weekend, a team from the Madras Dragstrip competed at Firebird Raceway outside of Boise, ID, in the 2011 NHRA Division 6 Summit ET Finals.
   Division 6 is made of 19 race tracks of the National Hot Rod Association, and each track can take a maximum of 58 racers to this event. The Madras Heat was represented by 32 individual racers.
   On Sept. 3, several Madras Heat drivers fared well in the Race of Champions.
   Earning quarterfinal appearances for the Madras Heat were Samuel Hosking (junior thunder division), Jeffery Taylor and Jamie Ladd (high school), James Love (sportsman) and Bryan Dawson (pro). Team Madras Heat placed seventh in the Race of Champions competition with 27 points.
   In the Dash for Cash event, Madras racer Shelly Goodman qualified for the semifinals in the pro division.
   On Sept. 4, Vicki McKelvy of Madras led team Madras Heat with a quarterfinal appearance in the sportsman division, and Fred Nicholas and Don Gould each made the quarterfinals of the pro division of the team event competition. The Madras Heat again placed seventh with 28 points.
   Madras Heat's Jeffery Taylor won the Best Appearing Car in the junior dragster division.The Madras Heat also garnered the Team Spirit Award.
   The Madras Dragstrip will host its year-end event Sept. 17-18 -- the Nostalgia Drags -- in which vehicles made in 1979 and before can race.
   This is historically the largest event of the season for the Madras Dragstrip.
