Barrels will roll at the third annual Madras Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Sahalee Park.

Admission is free to the event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy German food and drink along with music and games.
The Oktoberfest is a fundraiser for local service clubs, which will be doing the cooking and serving, according to Kent Wright, one of the organizers.
Madras Kiwanis will offer grilled bratwurst, German sausages and kraut; Madras Lions will have German pizza and giant pretzels; and Madras Elks Lodge will run the beer garden, which will feature a light lager and two special Oktoberfest beers this year. Seventy-five collectible beer steins will be available for sale.
The day's schedule includes:
11 a.m.: Grounds open with "Blastmuzik" (music) and food all day.
12 p.m.: Hammerschlagen (nail pounding contest) and Masskrugstemmen (mystery contest) -- round 1.
1 p.m.: Cabbage Toss contest and round 2 of the Masskrugstemmen contest. Shot put a head of cabbage the longest distance at a target.
2 p.m.: Alpenhorn contest (hold a note the longest), and Masskrugstemmen -- round 3.
4 p.m.: Chicken dance and Beir Barrel Roll contests. Show your best form and style while chicken dancing, or race each other in a classic barrel roll.
5 p.m.: Hunter's Story contest. Tall tales encouraged.
6 p.m.: Best Rack contest. Bring your biggest trophy antlers to pit up against your fellow hunters.
