White Buffalos undefeated
Madras' Carlos Garcia scored a pair of goals and the White Buffalos picked up their first Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference boys soccer victory of the season last week.
Playing at La Salle, Madras netted a 3-1 victory and moved to 4-1 overall on the season.
"That was a huge win over a much improved La Salle team from a year ago," MHS head coach Clark Jones said. "It was two evenly matched teams playing in a back-and-forth game."
Jhaylen Yeahquo countered a La Salle goal in the 28th minute to even the game 1-1, before Garcia put the game away in the second half with two goals.
"Jhaylen is a phenomenal athlete and basically he just finds ways to get open much like he does on the basketball court," Jones said. "He can cover a lot of real estate really fast."
Yeahquo assisted Garcia for the game-winning goal in the 70th minute and Garcia found the back of the net with five seconds remaining in the game on an assist from Michael Giron.
"Carlos is one of our better scorers," Jones said. "I think the big difference was our strong leadership. Our captains really stepped up."
The White Buffalos hosted Gladstone on Tuesday after press deadline. Madras plays at Estacada at 4 p.m. Sept. 29 for another TVC game.
