Buffs speeding up, Oxford Classic next
   Sunny Runsabove paced Madras with a time of 18 minutes, 45 seconds at the Harrier Classic cross country meet in Albany last Saturday.
   "It was a good race for our guys and our first speed run of the season," MHS head coach Donnie Alire said.
   Madras finished 39th out of 40 teams.
   "We had a couple times in the 18s and that's a good thing for us," Alire said.
   Isaac Fisher turned in a time of 18:58, Chris Lay finished in 19.50 and Miguel Vasquez finished in 19:54 for the White Buffalos.
   The MHS cross country squad will compete at the Oxford Classic held in Bend's Drake Park Friday.
   MHS girls fall to 0-3 in conference soccer play
   The Madras High School girls soccer team lost a pair of Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference games last week.
   The White Buffalos lost 6-0 at Gladstone and fell 2-1 to visiting Estacada Sept. 29.
   Madras (0-3 TVC) played Molalla (2-1) after press deadline Tuesday and visit North Marion (1-2) at 4 p.m. Oct. 6.
   Equestrian team hosting spaghetti feed Oct. 15
   The Madras High School equestrian team is hosting a spaghetti feed and silent auction Oct. 15 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Maccie Contoy building at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

   White Buffs' hoop program sells calendars
   The Madras High School boys basketball program is selling calendars as a fundraiser to help fund a basketball trip to Arizona in December.
   The 2011-2012 calendars sell for $20 each or three for $50.

   MHS senior class cooking barbecue Oct. 1
   The Madras High School senior class will host a homecoming barbecue fundrasier from 4-7 p.m. to benefit the MHS drug and alcohol free graduation party.
   The event will take place in the MHS football field parking lot and will cost $6 per person.
   The senior class is also welcoming cans and bottles for a can drive as well.
   2011 Kah-Nee-Ta fall run to take place Oct. 16
   The 2011 Kah-Nee-Ta fall run will take place Oct. 16 at the Village front gate at 10 a.m.
   Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk.
   Those who preregister by Oct. 14 will save $5.

   Golf tournament to raise funds for MHS hoopsters
   On Oct. 15, the MHS boys basketball program is teaming with the girls basketball program to host a four-person golf scramble at Kah-Nee-Ta High Desert Resort & Casino.
   The fundraising event begins at 12 p.m. and is $50 per player. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, three closest to the pin entries and two long-putt entries.

   Madras Swim Team tryouts set for Nov. 9-10
   The Madras Swim Team will host tryouts Nov. 9-10 at 5:30 p.m. each day for interested swimmers.
   Swimmers must be 5 years old and swim on length of the pool.
