La Salle blanks White Buffalos
Playing on the heels of its first victory in three years, Madras was unable to capitalize on its momentum.
Visiting La Salle broke open a 1-0 lead at halftime with three unanswered goals in the second half to take care of Madras 4-0 Sept. 22 in a Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference girls soccer game.
"We played okay in the first half," MHS first-year coach Mike Osborne said. "We just need to play with more consistency."
Osborne credited goal keeper Mariah Stacona for keeping the game close with several saves.
"We have had solid first halves, but we're still searching for 80 minutes of solid soccer."
La Salle (1-0 TVC, 4-0 overall) scored 10 minutes into the second half and twice in the final two minutes.
"We missed some assignments and rotations on defense," Osborne said. "We need to learn to attack more and play with more urgency."
Osborne praised the defensive efforts of Taylor Ellenburg, Megan Boyle, Alicia Farias and Johanna Altamirano.
Madras visited Gladstone after press deadline Tuesday and hosts Estacada at 4 p.m. Sept. 29. Both games are TVC contests.
