Big game looms between Culver, Irrigon

>Dogs, Knights competing for final playoff spotCulver is in a tightly contested battle for the third and final Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 5 playoff berth in boys soccer.
The Bulldogs played even with Central Christian and lost to Umatilla last week. Culver has scheduled to play Irrigon Monday, but the game was postponed to later this week, but information was unavailable as of press time.
"We know its not going to be easy to make the playoffs," CHS head coach Tom Kirk said. "I feel like our boys have improved and that was evident against Central Christian.
The White Tigers defeated Culver 5-4 earlier in the season, but the Bulldogs found a way to keep things even at 3-3 last Friday.
Gerson Gonzalez evened the game in the 78th minute on a pass from Brian Munoz. Jose Martinez and Isaias Gutierrez also scored for Culver.
"Isaias scored an impressive goal on a pass from Ryan Allen," Kirk said. "It was a one-touch cross and score."
Umatilla 6, Culver 2
On Oct. 4, Culver fell to host Umatilla 6-2.
Gonzalez and Edgar Villareal each netted goals for Culver, but the Bulldogs were unable to recover from a 3-1 halftime deficit.
