Oregon Democrat will attend a panel discussion on the recession and health care
Pacific University's Tom McCall Center for Policy Innovation will host a panel discussion with U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley Sunday, Nov. 13 called 'Life in Our Recession.'
The Oregon Democrat will join panelists representing human rights, healthcare and business groups to discuss the recession's toll.
The visit will be the first to Forest Grove from a sitting U.S. Senator since U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, also a Democrat, held a town hall in Forest Grove in 2009. There, protesters donned masks to push for a 'single payer' reform of the country's health care system, which would have created a single government agency responsible for insuring Americans.
Merkley visited Forest Grove in 2008 before he defeated Republican Gordon Smith in the November 2008 general election.
The panel will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13 in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center, 2014 Cedar St., in Forest Grove. Admission is free, but seating is limited.
