Double G dumps in career-high 28 points
Culver boys win big over DufurCulver junior Gearson Gonzalez booked a career-high 28 points in helping Culver match its win total from last season.
Gonzalez canned three shots from long range to lift the Bulldogs past visiting Dufur 64-51 in a Class 2A/1A nonleague boys basketball game.
"He played really aggressively on defense and it led to some easy buckets on offense," Culver head coach Brennan Whitaker said of Gonzalez. "He played a really good game."
Culver led 28-21 at halftime and outscored the Rangers 35-30 over the second half of play.
Gabe Bolton added 16 points and Clay Gibson scored eight points for the CHS.
"Gabe had to defend a very good offensive player and played him tough," Whitaker said.
Culver, which won two of 24 games last year, is 2-1 overall to open this campaign and hosted Sherman after press deadline Tuesday. The Huskies handed the Bulldogs their only loss Dec. 3 - an 89-58 defeat in the title game of the Sherman Invitational.
"We will see how much we have improved against Sherman," Whitaker.
The Bulldogs host a two-day tournament Dec. 16-17 that will include Burns, Gilchrist and Lost River.
