As part of a new sister-school agreement, 27 fifth- and sixth-grade students from Suzhou Experimental Elementary School in Suzhou, China, spent the day Oct. 4 at Cascade Heights Public Charter School in Clackamas.
Visiting students were paired with Cascade Heights students who study Chinese as their foreign language.
The visiting students participated in all core classroom activities during their one-day visit, as well as physical education, art and Chinese. The students also ate an American-style sack lunch.
There are 115 students studying Chinese at Cascade Heights.
'We are very happy to host Chinese students and it is our hope to someday send our students to Suzhou,' said Wenny Liao, the school's Chinese instructor.
Cascade Heights Public Charter School is one of about a dozen Oregon schools that have been named a Confucius Classroom, an extension of the Chinese government-affiliated Hanban Chinese Language Council International's Confucius Institute program, now established in universities worldwide, including Portland State University.
