Four MHS students will attend National SkillsUSA contest

Four Madras High School students are gearing up to attend the SkillsUSA National Conference in Kansas City, Mo., June 23-28.
   The students, Taylor Ellenburg, Ana Gonzalez, Bryson Miller and Shani Rehwinkel, were among 18 MHS SkillsUSA students who attended the state conference in April and placed in at least one event. Each of the four earned a gold medal.
   Rehwinkel and Ellenburg will compete in Promotional Bulletin Board; Gonzalez in T-shirt Design; and Miller in Leadership.
   Ten MHS students were named state champions and qualified for the national conference. Additionally, the MHS chapter won an Outstanding Chapter Award, and sophomore Bryson Miller was elected to the State Officer Team for his second year at the state conference.
   Gold medals went to the Opening and Closing Ceremony team of Javier Calderon, Taylor Ellenburg, Ana Gonzalez, Milagro Gonzalez, Jazmine Ike Lopez, Bryson Miller, and Jenifer Ramirez,; gold also went to Kayla Flowers and Shani Rehwinkel for Promotional Bulletin Board, and to Anthony Seebart for Extemporaneous Speaking.
   Silver medals were awarded to Ana Gonzalez for State T-Shirt Design and to Melissa Olivera for State Pin Design. Bronze medals went to the MHS Quiz Bowl Team: Laura Garcia, Pali Jordan Kaloi, Anthony Seebart, Garrett Taylor, and Haley Wells; bronze also went to Kayla Flowers and Shani Rehwinkel for Web Design; bronze to Pali Jordan Kaloi for Job Interview; and bronze to Stephanie Olivera for State Pin Design.
   Fourth place winners were: Garrett Taylor and Haley Wells in Web Design; Laura Garcia in Extemporaneous Speaking; Jesica Alavez Dominguez for State T-shirt Design; and Milagro Gonzalez in Photography. Fifth place went to Stephanie Olivera in Related Technical Math and to Jazmine Ike-Lopez for State Pin Design. Sixth Place went to Laura Garcia in Related Technical Math and to Lisa Ike Lopez for State Pin Design.

   "We are accepting any donations or support for this trip," said advisor Colleen Fletcher. "Each student will be representing Oregon as gold medalists in his or her event at nationals."
   As a fundraiser for SkillsUSA, the Class of 2012 Memories DVD and the 2012 Graduation DVD are now on sale for $10 each at Madras High School.
