Increasing enrollment forces COCC construction

Construction and remodeling projects are under way on the Bend and Redmond Central Oregon Community College's campuses to accommodate increasing enrollment over the last six years.
   The majority of the construction funding comes from a $41.58 million bond measure approved by voters in 2009 and state funding.
   Health Careers Building: This 48,000-square-foot building will provide up-to-date classroom and labs for the following programs: RN and LPN nursing programs, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Dental Assisting and Licensed Massage Therapy.
   The building is substantially complete, but due to last-minute changes required by local code officials, the building is now scheduled to be complete in early June. The general contractor for the project is HSW Builders.
   Science Building: The exterior concrete, siding and glass, as well as ceiling grid tile and lab countertops, have been installed. The furnishings for the administration area will be installed in late June. The 49,000-square-foot building is on schedule to be completed by fall term. The general contractor is Kirby Nagelhout Construction Co.
   The Chandler Lab Renovation Project at 1027 N.W. Trenton Ave. is substantially complete and the installation of furnishings and computers will continue through mid-June.
   This new home of the college's Community Learning department and Small Business Development Center will open June 25. The general contractor is Griffin Construction LLC.
   A 2,300-square-foot addition to Building 1 at the Redmond Campus will house a new 48-seat classroom and 24-seat science lab. Remodeled space within Building 1 will accommodate a 34-seat computer lab. The design phase will be completed in June, and construction is likely to start in late September.
   The Technology Education Center, on the corner of Veterans Way and Salmon Drive in Redmond, will house technology-centered programs. Design development is proceeding, and bids will be due Aug. 6. Project completion is anticipated by September 2013.
