Porter wins KEITH scholarship
Michael Porter, of Culver, a 2012 graduate of Culver High School, who is planning to attend Oregon State University this fall, was awarded the scholarship.
Originally interested in pursuing a math degree, Porter began exploring the field of engineering after a school advisor suggested it as a possible career choice.
At OSU, Porter will study engineering and work to narrow his focus between civil, manufacturing and electrical engineering disciplines.
The selection committee was impressed with Porter's strong academic achievements. In addition to participating in the National Honor Society, Porter also played baseball at Culver High School.
Keith Foster, founder of KEITH Manufacturing Co. and scholarship namesake, sponsored the award as part of a continuing commitment to improving engineering technology education throughout Oregon.
Porter joins past scholarship recipients in receiving a $2,500 per year stipend, as well as summer internships with the company. Mark Foster, president of KEITH Manufacturing, continues his late father's desire to educate future engineers in the state.
Keith Foster passed away in 2006, after spending more than half a century designing, engineering and manufacturing material handling systems for customers around the world.
Located in Madras, KEITH Manufacturing Co., makes the WALKING FLOOR unloader, which has provided a variety of industries with reliable and innovative material handling equipment for nearly 40 years.
