Activities lead up to big fireworks display July 4

ild week of activity is gearing up in Madras, topped off with the town's Fourth of July celebration.
The Show and Shine Car Show revs up at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 30. Bring your hot rod, or just the family to this free event.
Players and guests in town for the Little League All Stars tournament are invited to attend all events.
June 27-July 1, All Rockhounds Pow Wow Club of America's rock, gem and mineral show at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. (See story on page 2).
Sunday, July 1, at 2 p.m., join the Ice Cream Eating Contest at the Madras Aquatic Center, hosted by Ma and Pa's Ice Cream.
Monday, July 2, starting at 5 p.m., at the Juniper Hills Park softball fields, is the Home Run Derby, for ages 9 to 99. Come try your hand at hitting a homer.
Tuesday, July 3, is Rio restaurant's block party at 5 p.m., on Fifth and E streets, with kids' games and free tacos for Little League All Stars.
Wednesday, July 4:
. 6 a.m., the Todd Beamer Memorial Run kicks off with registration in Sahalee Park. A Fun Walk/Run begins after the runners come in.
. 11 a.m., the hometown Fourth of July Parade at Sahalee Park.
. 1 p.m., the inaugural Lawn Mower Race at the park. Call the chamber to get your rider registered.
. 2:30 p.m., Madras Aquatic Center's Slam Dunk Contest at Sahalee Park.
. 5 p.m., MAC Splash begins at the aquatic center with barbecue, swimming and fireworks viewing.
. At dusk, a spectacular fireworks display, sponsored by the Madras Sparklers.
