roposed scenic bikeway may put the Madras, Metolius and Culver communities on the map.
The Oregon Scenic Bikeway program has identified the best of the best rides in Oregon. There are currently nine approved scenic bikeways in Oregon. The proposed Madras Mountain View Scenic Bikeway will be the 10th.
Community members, residents, farmers and ranchers along the proposed scenic bikeway route are invited to attend an informational meeting from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, in the Metolius City Hall meeting room.
Alexandra Phillips, bicycle recreation coordinator for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, will be on hand to answer questions about the state program and proposed route for local communities.
The agenda will include discussion on the economic impacts of developing bicycle-friendly communities, the proposed route map, and impacts of the proposed bikeway for local communities.
The 33-mile loop will start and finish at Sahalee Park in Madras. From the park, it will take back roads to Metolius and Culver, continuing on to Southwest Mountain View Drive -- the Cove overlook area.
From there, it will return to Madras by way of Southwest Belmont Lane. A map of the proposed bikeway will be available at the meeting.
