Providence Medical Group's lead midwife, Jamie George (formerly Jamie Broker), has been named the Preceptor of the Year by the American College of Nurse Midwives, a national midwifery organization.
She received the national award on June 4, in Long Beach, Calif.
George is the daughter of Jerry and Sandra Broker of Madras. Upon graduation from Madras High School, she received several scholarships, one of them from Mountain View Hospital Auxiliary.
She received a Bachelor in Nursing degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Midwifery degree from Marquette University.
A preceptor is a certified nurse midwife, who performs clinical training for future nurse midwives. Most recently, George has precepted students from the University of Washington and Seattle University midwifery programs.
"I really enjoy working side-by-side with students and helping their clinical skills evolve," said George, who now resides in Seattle.
"I strongly believe in the importance of my role as a teacher to students, patients, co-workers and self, and know I will be a teacher and student for the rest of my career," she said.
