Columbia, Bend South cruise in minor softball

Warm Springs eliminated

Columbia and Bend South have firm control of the District 5 Little League Minors softball bracket, while Warm Springs Nation was eliminated from the field during the all-star tournament at Juniper Hills Park in Madras.
   Warm Springs Nation lost 7-3 to Hood River in its opener and dropped in the consolation bracket 26-10 to the hands of Hermiston.
   Bend South and Columbia squared off after press deadline Monday for the right to face the winner of the consolation bracket at 8:30 a.m. July 4 for the tournament championship.

   Warm Springs Nation let a 3-1 lead slip away in its tournament opener.
   Hood River scored six unanswered runs to earn a 7-3 victory over the fourth, fifth and sixth frames.
   Kinley Schjoll, Vanessa Culpus and Jonissa Scott each scored runs for Warm Springs Nation.
   Hermiston 26, WSN 10
   Dominique Walker ripped a two doubles, Natasha Lopez had a double and Vanessa Culps hit a home run, but it was not enough for Warm Springs during a 26-10 loss in the consolation bracket.
   Bailee Noland scored five runs for Hermiston, which played Hood River in an elimination game after press deadline Monday.
   Columbia 21, Hood R. 6
   Summer Hartinger and Kendra Hart each scored four runs in leading Columbia past Hood River 21-6 in the second round.
   Bend S. 16, Hermiston 5
   Emily Smith went three for three and teammate Isabelle Spitler scored three runs to help Bend South down Hermiston 16-5 in the second round.
