Ellsbury nearing return to Red Sox
Center fielder has been on DLMadras High School graduate Jacoby Ellsbury should return to the Boston Red Sox lineup shortly after the all-star break.
Ellsbury went 1 for 4 with a run Sunday for Triple-A Pawtucket and plans to work out at Fenway Park during the all-star break.
According to various Boston Red Sox media sources, manager Bobby Valentine said he's "pretty sure" Ellsbury will join the Red Sox at some point during this weekend's three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
Ellsbury has been sidelined since April 13, when his right shoulder was partially dislocated under the weight of Rays shortstop Reid Brignac. He has gone 5 for 23 in seven games on a 20-day minor league rehab assignment that is due to expire July 19, when the Red Sox will play a series finale against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park.
Ellsbury has played in just seven games this year and posted a .192 batting average. Last year, the local talent finished second in the American League Most Valuable Player voting. He hit .321, belted 32 home runs, had 105 RBIs, scored 119 runs and finished with 212 hits.
